Trstenik
Trstenik is a small fisherman village set tight amongst the hills of Pelješac peninsula. This is one of the most famous areas for vineyards and wineries in Croatia, and some of Croatia’s most renowned top quality wines are produced here. Pelješac is also a home of the famous Zinfandel sort taken from this area to Napa Valley.
One of the most famous Californian winemakers Grgich was born in this village. When his daughter returned from the USA she started running a winery in his home village. Follow the road up the hill to visit it and taste some marvellous wines from this area (open daily 9-17 h only in high season). There is another small wine cellar in the village owned by Family Živkušić, who will be happy to welcome you and show you their products like local wine “Plavac mali”. Note that the wineries might be closed in the afternoon hours in pre and post season.
In this wonderful wine region, it is almost impossible to stumble upon a bad bottle of wine. Some of the most renowned wine producers are Grgich, Matuško, Miličić, Vukas, Madirazza, Korta Katarina, Antunović and others, but even the smallest producers make good wines. Most famous grape sort is Plavac Mali and most famous wines produced from this sort are Dingač and Postup.
