Molat

molat (1).jpg molat (2).jpg

Molat is in the northern part of the Zadar archipelago, between the islands of Ist in the north and Sestronj in the south. Since ancient times it has been known for its honey production, so the name of the island of Molat comes from the Latin word Mellitus - honey. The island of Molat is mostly covered with macchia and coastal pine trees.

Molat is an island of a turbulent and rich history. It has been inhabited since the 7th century, and remains of flint objects from the Paleolithic have been found on the island. This small island was marked by times of agriculture, repression, violence and plunder by the Venetians, Turks, and Venetians. Today, the island of Molat has about two hundred inhabitants, mainly engaged in agriculture, sheep farming, fishing, and tourism. There are three settlements on the island: Molat, Brgulje, and Zapuntel.

Molat is the main settlement on the island located in its southern part. In this picturesque tourist town, there are several restaurants, a shop, a bakery, and even a museum. Interestingly, there is also a library in Molat that has more members than residents, with over 6600 different books. The place is dominated by Jazi Beach, one of the most beautiful on the island. The port of Lucina has 36 berths with water and electricity connections and a daily ferry from Zadar.

Tame and unspoiled nature, beautiful beaches and bays and clear sea are ideal recipes for all who desire privacy, peace, and nature while cruising the Dalmatian Coast.
