Mostar

Mostar is the main cultural, political and financial center of Herzegovina. At the first sight you will experience the magic of this beautiful city. You will feel the multitude of differences that make it special.

Mostar is often held as a prime example of the story of Balkans. It touches East and West, Christianity and Islam, it is a bridge between the cultures of this stunning country. The Neretva River, which divides and connects the eastern and western parts of the city, is the most important element of the natural ecosystem in the city, with a great influence on its ancient and recent history. The famous Old Bridge is by far the most famous and visited point of the city, originally built during the Ottoman Empire in 1566, due to war destruction the bridge was rebuilt in 2004 and is under UNESCO protection. The bridge is also known for its bravest jumpers during the annual competition.

The city is filled with picturesque restaurants and cafes. One of the most important buildings is Muslibegović's house, over 300 years old, with preserved and restored traditional architecture and interior. Today it is both a tourist accommodation and an ethnographic collection.

In the old part of Mostar, be sure to visit the sights such as Kriva ćuprija, the tower near the Old Bridge and Tabhana.

There is also the unavoidable street Kujundžiluk - "Mostar baščaršija", a street with cobblestones where there are many colorful street shops with traditional dishes, jewelry and souvenirs.

Visit the Franciscan Church, which is adorned with the tallest bell tower in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Karadjozbeg Mosque - the oldest mosque in Herzegovina.

The Spanish Steps are the center of the western part of the city with Austro-Hungarian heritage.

If you decide to take a trip to Mostar during the summer, you may find yourself on the Old Bridge just at the time of the most famous city event - the Neretva jumps, which has been a focal talking point by media over the decades and holds a great importance to the spirit of the city.

Mostar is a city that will not be overlooked by anyone who loves to travel. This ancient wonder holds stunning themes and secrets that will tell you a beautiful story about the history of Eastern part of Europe all under amazing natural setting.
