Historic wonders of Istria

Whether your kids appreciate history or not, visiting the impressive Roman ruins in Istria are sure to delight them. Beginning at the Pula Arena where kids can pretend to be gladiators or wander among the epic archaeological ruins of Temple of Augustus and the Hercules Gate. For a special twist take them to the Glavani Park for a lesson in rope climbing, or if they are older to Pazinska Jama for zip lining over canyons and rivers.

 

 

Mountains and beaches of Split

The perfect place to take intrepid youngsters on a visit to Split is without any doubt it's leading attraction, the Diocletian's Palace. After they have blown their steam here, head to Biokovo, a short drive from Split, and home to the tallest mountain in Croatia. Don good hiking boots, pack some food and celebrate your ascent to the top with a picnic. Another place where kids can enjoy the great outdoors is Marjan Park, located just off the city center. For the ultimate bird's eye view of the city, mountains and the sea, climb up to Telegrin and give the kids a good exercise as well.

 

Dubrovnik: Old Town and Cable Cars

The pedestrian-only Old Town of Dubrovnik will seem like a fantasy land to the children. Kids will love to explore the narrow alleys and secretive stairways if this historical quarter of the city.The stellar attraction here are the 15th century city walls which encircle the Old Town, from where the children would love to look down for views of the city, the harbor and the people below. For a real high, take the cable car to Srd Hill, and point out all the places you have visited to the kids. A quick ferry ride away lies Lokrum Island, and wander through the 19th century botanical gardens or spot wild peacocks foraging in the lush surroundings.

 

 

Blue Cave Tour

The Dalmatian Islands have something for everyone in any age group because of the wealth of natural beauty they possess. A day trip from Split can take you to the island of Vis and Bisevo, which is also home to the famous Blue Cave. Here when the rays of the sun percolate the waters, an ethereal blue color is emitted, thereby giving this place the name.

 

Plitvice Lakes and Krka National Park

Nothing can quite compare with the National Parks of Croatia, especially for those children who love the outdoors. The landscape and waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes has to be seen to be believed. An equally beautiful place, where you can swim as well, is Krka National Park further south. The swimming holes formed by the cascading waterfalls are a great hit with the families. Take a boat ride on the Krka river and visit the Krka Monastery, which will have the imagination of the children running wild.
